Juli 2020, Antonius, Rotterdam

In a dark industrial space, a plaster figure rests on a space blanket. Like a point of light in the darkness, floating in nothingness, it evokes feelings of loneliness and vulnerability. The animal, resembling a deer, is in labor and gently directs its snout towards the head of the child. Up close, you can see that she carries a human, not a deer.

The emergence of life remains a magical phenomenon. From the Virgin Mary to Greek mythology, stories of the mysterious births of gods have been told for millennia. Now, in modern times, these stories are fading from memory, with science reigning in the human heart. As if we were gods ourselves, we are driven to harness nature to and escape its demand. The pure white sculpture symbolizes virginity and sanctity, which is being tainted by the parasitic lifestyle of modern humans, using this deer to bear the human child.
